Charles Manson and four of his followers are still in jail to this day. Manson won't own up to telling his followers to kill people. He claims to have told them to do what they want and what they feel is right. He says he feels no regret or remorse. He sees people being killed and cut in jail everyday and he doesn't even raise an eyebrow.  Leslie Van Houten and Patricia Krenwinkel, the two female followers who ended up in jail for life with Manson and Tex take full responsibility for what they did. Houten says she's offended Manson told them he doesn't lie and he always tells the truth yet everyday they were going into the court room, he would tell them to lie and take responsibility for things he did. She's offended he won't take responsibility for his own actions. Krenwinkel says she gets letters from kids telling her what she did is alright because she wasn't herself. She disagrees and says nothing they did was alright. Six of the nine adult "family" members are serving a life sentence in prison for murder or attempted murder. The others have been in jail but are now living normal lives with their own families in various states. In the end, Manson ended up right back where he started in jail. The irony? That was the closest place to calling home aside from the ranch. The saddest part about the whole fiasco is that the people who were murdered didn't do anything to Manson or his "family" and their families suffered almost as mad as the deceased did. The public panicked and this happened because Manson was paranoid about the African Americans taking over-which never happened. People can try to figure out what Manson was thinking from his late teen years through his time in court but no one will understand entirely. He covered up his thoughts with random acts like starring at people in the court room and lunging at the judge. The most accurate reason the majority of people come up with goes back to Manson's childhood. Maybe he just wanted to take care of someone since he wasn't taken care of and it got out of control. Or maybe he wanted someone to care for him. Regardless, there's no way to fix what was done or replace those who were lost.  Timeline
